A Letter from the Principal:

Our summer went by quickly and as we begin this school year we all need to keep the Wake County School Board goal as a priority.   The goal states WCPSS students will demonstrate high academic growth; by 2014, all students will graduate on-time prepared to compete globally.   The Davis Drive Elementary students have continuously demonstrated high growth in their overall test performance thanks to the community efforts of parents, staff, and students.   Our staff is committed to challenging yet nurturing student to meet academic needs.  

In order to reach the Board Goal, the school system has required each school to implement Professional Learning Teams (PLTs).   Time has been set aside each week on Wednesdays for teachers to meet with their colleagues to discuss and plan for differentiated instruction for our students.   During the first week of school, grade level PLTs met to determine procedures and structures for their team.   During additional meetings teachers will focus on developing learning opportunities for our students.  We want all of students to experience a high rate of success.    During the Early release times, teachers will examine data about students to develop instructional strategies to meet differing needs.   Using a team approach to develop strategies for teaching will be a valuable tool to meet individual needs of our students.   Research shows that students are more successful when teachers have opportunities to collaborate.
